Great beach but unlike some beaches, the sand is flat and hard. On a windy day, nothing is there to stop the wind so setting up an umbrella or tent could be frustrating. I wish parking wasn’t so difficult. Due to residential housing, it can be a trek even if there is a boardwalk. A friend told me there is parking at the local elementary school and that a boardwalk goes from there to the beach which is nice. I think this is why others mention it not being crowded. My children loved it there as the flat sand allows for fun sand messages if you find a good stick. While there got to see a carnival cruise ship leave as well. Sunset there is pretty. I wish public bathrooms were scattered at points on the beach…I didn’t see any.

Sunset on the Beach. Among the very best sights in Charleston.

    Surprises abound.

Very lovely place to go to see the sea. See the wildlife, aquatic life, and see other people enjoying the sea.

    Wide and spacious.

Near some of the best restaurants anywhere.

    Love this place.

One of my favorite beaches in the Charleston area! There is plenty of “free parking” on the side streets if you have patience to find a spot, and the pathways to walk to the beach are pretty cool too! The beach can be pretty busy on the weekends, but still manageable to find parking and a quiet spot in the sand.

Absolutely LOVE this beach! Not very crowded, hard sand to walk along, no undertow or crashing waves. Easy ocean swimming. I gave it 4 stars because there are no restrooms. No lifeguards either. Parking in nearby neighborhood was easy if you get there early (there is no parking lot).
Huge container ships go by frequently too.
I can’t wait to spend another day there 😊

Absolutely had the thrill of a lifetime here! No crowds at all and beautiful sandy beaches. While swimming a friend and I saw dolphins and swam with sting rays! We saw them two different days, and they were incredible. Will definitely be coming back to this beach. No alcohol or plastic allowed on the beaches.

Burkes Beach is fantastic! Great Family beach. The Beach is very clean, Large and not nearly as crowded as some of our other beaches on Hilton Head Island. There is usually plenty of Parking available when we have been there (unless it’s a holiday). The parking is $1 per hour which is very reasonable. There are teller machines that accept cash and credit card to pay for your parking space. There is a very long board walk to get down to the beach but worth the walk for sure! Burkes Beach, Folly Field Beach area gives you access to miles of beaches lining the Atlantic Ocean side of Hilton Head Island – The second largest barrier island on the East Coast! Hilton heads significant tidal swing gives our beaches a great mixture of hard packed sand to easily walk and ride bikes on as well as soft sands past our high tide line. I am a little bias as I love the low country that we get to call home, but this is a beautiful beach for sure. Our beaches seem to draw more of a family atmosphere verse the party crowd you see in other places. We Love Hilton Head and everything it has to offer!

Best kept secret of Hilton head! Busy after midday. Free of trash and plenty of beach for all of the people. The wash station was good. Parking is easy at the park. There was plenty of video surveillance to protect people even at night. Sometimes planes would fly over, but IMO totally worth it.

Very nice area away from crowds. More peaceful since less crowded than some of the other beaches in Hilton Head. Definitely worth checking out because you see some cool stuff on the walk from the parking lot down from beach houses and next to restrooms. I really enjoyed it here

What to say about Burkes Beach?

What a great beach and breath of fresh air!!!
The sand is amazing and great to work out on because your feet sink in a bit, which helps your knees when running.
There are showers right before beach access and Chaplin Community Park is right there to park.
The beach is very clean and it even has an area in which the water comes in and forms lakes inland and you can swim and fish around it. We got stung by jellyfish the day we went but it was still SO WORTH GOING!!

    Will return.

Simply amazing. Beautiful inlet to a creek. Perfect for family fun. Great surf. Saw a bunch of surfers catching waves yesterday. Lots of parking and a great bathroom and showers. One of my favorite beaches on HHI.

A very nice, dog friendly beach! In the winter season, there are designated times for on-leash (10 am to 4 pm) versus off-leash (4 pm to 10 am) dogs. The times are different for the summer season. Went during the on-leash period and most people followed the leash guidelines. If you pay to park in the county park area, you get access to showers, restrooms, and changing areas. Enjoyed it!

Visiting from Nebraska back in June 2022. Our family had a blast. I can’t swim but my husband could & our daughter can. I knew I was safe in my husband’s hands/arms. He was country strong. I always wanted to go to a beach & my husband finally got me there. Such a beautiful site. I could have stayed there all day. It’s really crowed but The people are very friendly & don’t mind when kids trampled them on accident. This beach is family oriented. The best part was jumping when the waves came. It was super fun!! I will always have these memories as long as my memory operates. I lost my husband in July 2022, a month after this amazing vacation & I’ve been torn every since. Cherish those moments because you never know when those might be your last memory with someone. 😢

I enjoyed swimming, splashing in the waves, and walking the beach.
The surfers were respectful of the swimmers.
There are 2 places with public rinse off showers and restrooms.
Walking on the beach during sunrise was wonderful.

Probably the best beach i’ve been to. Pretty laid back, not crowded, plenty of restaurants, shops, and a nice grocery nearby (Harris n Teeter). Very clean and family oriented

Such a beautiful beach! We visited after Hurricane Nicole and the shore was still very clean. There was a good amount of parking and lots of restaurants and shops to visit before or after. Dogs are allowed off leash until 10am during the winter months and ours had a blast playing in the sand and exploring the water.
